Watford Pancake Race 2026

The Lord-Lieutenant was pleased to be the official starter at the Watford Pancake Race – one of the first Herts Together events.

The first time this event has been held in Watford since 2016 attracted a huge crowd in the centre of Hertfordshire’s largest town. There were a number of races, including disability races as well as several races for children aged under 5, 5-9 and then the adults’ race. One of the teams was the “Flying Vicars”, a team of 4 local clergy, as well as 2 teams from BBC Radio 2 and a number of local businesses. Money was raised for 2 local charities – Watford Mencap and The Watford Community Fund

Herts Together: One County. Many Voices. Shared Future

Hertfordshire is one of the most diverse counties in the United Kingdom, enriched by cultures, traditions and communities from across the world. In a time when unity and inclusion matter more than ever, we are coming together to celebrate the people, places and partnerships that make our county vibrant and welcoming.

On Tuesday 10 February at 6.30 pm, we launch Herts Together at the historic St Albans Cathedral. This marks the beginning of a year-long programme celebrating our shared identity and strengthening the connections that bind us.

At the heart of the campaign is a simple and powerful message: One County, Many Voices, Shared Future. It reflects a Hertfordshire where communities of every background stand side by side, shaping a brighter and more connected future.

Throughout the year, Herts Together will host events, projects and collaborations built around seven themes that reflect the life and diversity of our county:

• Sport and Wellbeing
• Music and Arts
• Food and Culinary Heritage
• Business and Commerce
• Family, Young People and Education
• Faith, Culture and Worship
• Nature and Environment

These themes will shape community festivals, youth programmes, cultural celebrations, business forums and local partnerships. Each one is designed to bring people together, strengthen understanding and build pride in the shared story of Hertfordshire.

Robert Voss CBE CStJ, Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, said:
Herts Together reminds us that the strength of our communities is found in the compassion we show one another. Let the yearlong activities be a shining example of what can be achieved when people join hands in a shared purpose. It is a privilege to lead an initiative that celebrates unity and cohesion and the enduring spirit of Hertfordshire.”

Everyone across Hertfordshire is invited to take part. Residents, schools, businesses, community groups and faith organisations are all encouraged to join this movement and help shape a positive, sustainable and inclusive future.
